Update: Three hours of sleep is not your friend. I had a very old Slashdot posting. (Thanks, Anil.)
According to BBC News, Blogger has been hacked.
Google’s Blogger site is being used by malicious hackers who are posting fake entries to some blogs.
The fake entries contain weblinks that lead to booby-trapped downloads that could infect a Windows PC.
Infected computers are being hijacked by the gang behind the attacks and either mined for saleable data or used for other attacks.
Update from Eric at Blogger (see comments).
Blogger was not compromised. Instead, the blog posts are from users whose machines were compromised by a virus. These users had their mail2blogger addresses in their computers’ address books (a perfectly legitimate use case), which the virus then spammed with its content.

The slashdot thread you’ve linked to is from an incident five years ago. I don’t know of any current issues with the Blogger team (I work with Six Apart) but I’d look to their blog for a response if there were an issue.
Hi,
This is Eric from Blogger – we just published a bit more about this on our team blog: http://buzz.blogger.com/2007/08/blogger-and-malware.html
Thanks for the note, Eric.
Many down loads are mal-ware just yesterday I posted and down loaded face recognition soft ware and just waited without giving it a password this morning the dang thing that I left running, had done what I thought and the system had to go to a restore point before it would start checked for files and bananna folders are emmpty caution is advisable this from an unofficial google site on Blogger check it out, though source forge is a reliable source.
I hope that this doesn’t influence blogger’s decision to allow third-party HTML/javascript from being used. It’s one of the blogs that does, and I really like that feature for my blogs.
That’s a good question, Keith. Maybe Eric will comment.
What a coincidence. Everyone in the efx2.com community lost our accounts. The developer/owner of efx2.com, whose name is Keith, notified members on his contact list with the following message:
“I was just informed that the whole server was taken down because someone exploited our site and was using it for a phishing scam. I have no idea if or even when the site will be back up. I am going crazy because I don’t know what to do now. I need to figure out what my options are for the site or if it needs to be removed completely. Martin our host got a message from the main server hosting company about the phishing scam and told Martin that the site needs to be removed in order to resume service.
I am trying to work with Martin in order to get the site content and database content so we have an updated backup and hopefully we can continue blogging soon .. but not sure exactly when.
I still have efx2blogs.com domain if efx2.com is no longer usable if we need to start over as a worse case scenario .. we would still have the same content but the actual blogs themselves would have to be very restricted to prevent further exploits.
Man this is the worst thing that could happen right now and totally caught me by surprise. Please pass this information around and I will keep you updated so you can keep the others updated.
- Keith”
We had some glitches that made me wonder if somebody had exploited the service again, as was the case a year ago when spam – bots were filling linkback pages, comments sections and shout boxes with links advertising drugs and porn.
So, I’m stuck with my recently revived account at blogger/blogspot. I knew, I’d held onto that one for a reason, but many of us that had blogs at efx2.com are very unhappy. That service and community put the ones owned by cold, faceless corporate people to shame because of the versitility we had in fully customizing and decorating our blogs.
Well, I somehow got this virus yesterday, it was Id’d as the Trojan Horse Virus on the virus scan. I would like any additional info. if you have it. I still don’t know how I got it, I haven’t had any recent posts to my blog. Anything I should be looking for ?
I am facing the problem with my one of web hosting blog. It was having the great position in google for some keywords. Now I am not able to control that, it is totally removed from my dashboard. But still it is showing my logo and post information like my name time-stamp, etc. At the place of my post contents it is showing advertisements. I am really frustrated after all these.
Someone is accusing me of hacking their blog and I have no idea how to do so,nor would I ever want too.
They are publishing malicious slander against me and i think they may have been infected with this virus.
Any help you could offer would be appreciated. I need to clear my name ASAP.
We focus mainly on state threats to bloggers, not specific individual accusations. We wouldn’t know how to help, anyway. You would be better served dealing with this person either personally or through the courts. Best to you.
We were having a blog for our domain name india site, but unfortunately it was hacked. I never believed that, but I have heard for some people it is very easy to do and moreover they do it. I give up.
