Laxman Kailas, a user of the Google-owned social networking site Orkut, was arrested in the western Indian city of Pune on September 2. According to The Times of India:
A Bangalore-based computer engineer has landed in the police net after he allegedly uploaded a blasphemous matter about Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji on the social networking site Orkut.
The cyber cell of city police, investigating the crime for the last ten months on a complaint registered by BJP workers here last November, zeroed in on the IT professional Laxman Kailas K and arrested him in Bangalore yesterday, police said.
The report indicates that Laxman was traced via his IP address with the cooperation of Google, who subsequently deleted the offending material.
“‘The police took help of Google officials in Bangalore to locate the computer with the detected IP address,’” The Times of India subsequently said, quoting police commissioner Rajendra Singh.
He was said by Pune Newsline have been remanded until today.
