Burmese Bloggers Go Dark, Pt. 2

Free Burma

The other post was getting too long, so I’m starting a second.

As I said at the end of Pt. 1, the only blogger I can find inside Burma still posting is Niknayman, who is posting via cbox, a “tagboard” comment box. (I’ve installed one in our sidebar.) Here’s Niknayman’s Burmese cbox and here’s Niknayman’s English cbox.

Ko-Htike, posting from London, had information yesterday, including reports of death and one of the worst photos I’ve seen come out of this yet. He said that the Internet was accessible via proxy for some length of time, though difficult to use, then dark again.

For information on Free Burma Day (October 4), click graphic at top of post.

Update: Niknayman and associates continue to blog inside Burma via Niknayman’s cbox. Partial list of dead, partial list of internal and external protests, state of the monks and call for everyone to honor the General Strike called for today (October 1; now it’s 6:00 a.m. in Burma).

“Now, Myanmar Police Force is tracking the blog owner of http://niknayman.blogspot.com/. This blog has been doing as the most dedicated informer to the rest of the Burmese around the world.” Let’s all of us keep our eye on Nik insofar as we can.

Update: Marshall at ReadWriteWeb has scraped a feed for Niknayman’s cbox: http://feeds.feedburner.com/NewsBloggedFromBurma.

Update: From Niknayman, today, October 2: “Supporters of military regime are trying to hack into emails, forums and websites by sending bogus emails by using actual owners’ names. Pls be careful.”
