According to Radio Free Asia, Zhai Minglei, blogger at Yibao, and editor of the now-closed magazine Minjian, had his house raided today this morning by Chinese authorities.
“Three of them showed ID that confirmed they were from the Shanghai cultural business bureau. They said that I was involved in the illegal publication and distribution of materials, and acting as a freelance editor. They took away 41 copies of Minjian magazine,” Zhai said.
They also confiscated his computer’s harddrive.
Zhai said he was sure the investigations were linked to a highly detailed account of the closure of Minjian magazine which he posted on his blog, Yibao, drawing dozens of messages of support from commenters.
Authorities in the Guangzhou municipality revoked the publishing license of Minjian, published by Zhongshan University, in July and confiscated 5,000 copies of hte magazine. The plug was pulled on the Internet edition the next month and the overseas-hosted edition was blocked in October.
Zhai’s blog, Yibao, was blocked last week, although the US-hosted version was visible on Thursday.
