Nigerian Blogger, Jonathan Elendu was arrested by the Nigerian SSS and questioned for ’sponsoring a guerilla news agency’ The SSS is the Nigerian State Security Service, and is notorious for clamping down on dissenters. Elendu was arrested after his arrival from the US where he is based. His writings are said to have generated ‘national security issues’ *we wonder what these are!*
Elendu blogs at Elendu Reports which focuses on federal corruption and gives updates on public officials in court and the progress of their trials. He was held for 24 hours before he was interrogated, with a spokesman for the SSS undertaking that the ‘rule of law’ would be followed.
As of yesterday, 22nd October he had not been released or charged and it is not clear if he will indeed be brought before the courts.
We will give updates as the situation unfolds.

Thanks so much for picking up this story. We Nigerian bloggers, particularly those of us who pay attention to politics and have opinions on the future of the country, live in constant worry about whether we are safe. This Elendu situation has proven that indeed, there was cause for concern on our parts.
I hope that Elendu will be released unharmed so he can return to his family.
A distorted Chinese whisper form of information is how Nigeria runs in the age of Facebook, no wonder it has regressed but acting tough and arresting citizen journalists will give credence to gossip.
I am glad that you did this. Elendu and Nigeriancuriosity are the two blogs that speak LOUD an CLEAR. I do hope that things will improve in my country. I have nothing but sadness in my heart.
